Hello to all,

Well, it is sad to say but I must start this newsletter on a sad note. We have lost a great friend. Rhonda Hogan died yesterday in a horse riding accident at Land between the Lakes in Cadiz, KY. Her and her husband Charlie where there celebrating their wedding anniversary for the weekend. They are the owners of Heartland Quarter Horses in Elizabethtown. We have been friends for a long time and will miss her greatly. She was also our mail carrier. Even though we are in competing businesses we never had a competitive relationship. We traded ideas, cures, horse stories, problem solving, referrals and medical cures as Charlie has some of the same joint problems I have.  I find it extremely hard to take a death of someone so close. I can't believe she is no longer there. Please join me in prayer for Charlie. I spoke to him this morning, he is going to need the support of prayer. I guess there is something to be said for dieing while doing something you love. Rhonda was 54 years old.

Things are still dry at the stables. We got a little over one half inch of rain from the last go round. Not enough to re-establish the pasture. These things are cyclic and it too shall pass. Meanwhile, I have purchased another 100 bales of hay plus still have my contract for 30 round bales starting in October. So, the droughts effects will not bother your horses, just my thin pocketbook.

The horses got their wormings yesterday. In September and March, I worm with a broad spectrum wormer that goes after bots. I would like to report that the horses loved the procedure but they didn't.

Of our new charges, Phinny is growing like a proverbial weed. He is still staying quite friendly which is odd for a little stud colt. I think he is going to make a grand one. Indy and Bella are over their ribbey state and filling out nicely. The Amish are running behind on building the new turn out stall but I am hoping to have it ready for winter. Not that horses use them much but they do provide a wind break and sun shade.

Dar is doing well on his thyroid medicine and is looking more handsome than ever. Lady and April have proven to be a good mix for each other. Aaron has retired (for good) from police work and has more time for horses and LeeAnna has her confidence back and is riding well. Pal is, well, Pal. He is still doing great on the diet I developed for him. Even though it is expensive, it is worth it to see him enjoying life once again and being playful.  Jackie is still lording over her section of the stables, enjoying her retirement, baths and groomings. She is a big dog with hooves. Big Shot is a normal teenager. Full of himself but willing to learn. His Mother is doing good but too fat. I think it is a possible hormone problem with her because I know it isn't her diet. Lee is doing a good job with his colt and should be riding soon.

I have a fence project going on. If anyone feels like painting let me know. Yeah, right, like anyone ever feels like painting.

My family is doing awesome. Jennifer's birthday is today. We plan on celebrating this weekend. Matt is busy with school, football and chores. God has surely blessed me with a wonderful family, a great life and super friends which include all of you. Give Him thanks.

Until next time, Happy Trails,

Richard, Jennifer and Matt
