Double R Stables

News Letter

May 14th, 2008

Hello fellow horse lovers,

It has been awhile since I have written anything so I thought I had better give it a go.

Things have been extremely busy at the stables in between showers. No real complaint from me on the rain after our problems last year. Looks like hay will be good this year. Well, at least the first cutting will.

We have bought a new horse since last writing. His name is Bojangles Fancy Man. He is a 17 year old quarter horse. We picked him up in Shelby County a week ago Sunday. Funny, but we went to look at him as a possible horse for LeeAnna and Aaron. They have a couple of horses boarded here and have been having a lot of trouble with one of them. Their young mare, Mallory had turned a bit dangerous. Anyway, after looking at and riding Bo, Jennifer fell in love with him and wanted him for herself. Long story short, we sold the mare I bought last month for Jennifer to LeeAnna for some cash and Mallory. Then we sold Mallory to a trainer for a teeny amount of cash. She will get some badly needed schooling. The trade seems to be working for all concerned.

Lee Graves is still working on Big Shot and his schooling is working well. Not bad for a novice trainer. Pal is still doing good and looking awesome and Dar is looking 10 years younger since starting on some thyroid medication. Everyone seems healthy and happy.

Fly season has started with a vengeance. I have been contacted by two horse owners for fly control this season. The cost is $20.00 per month through the end of October. Fly control will be administered weekly as well as garlic added to their feed. Let me know if you want your horse taken care of during the fly season.

On another note, I checked with the Vet. and the cost of shots this year are $21.50 for West Nile and $16.00 for the 5-way. That is a total of $37.50 per horse and I will administer the shots free as long as you are here to hold the horse and watch the shot being given. This money needs to be included in the June board checks. June is annual shot month as well as a worming month. Sorry but no shots will be ordered unless paid for in advance, it has just gotten too expensive. As always, I will pay for and administer the wormings.

We added a menu of the services we offer in the breezeway of the barn. Take a look and let us know if we can be of service this summer.

Guess that is all the news fit to print from here. Y'all come and see us soon.

Richard, Jennifer and Matt
